Would be nice if there were settings that allowed me to really hammer my hardware and get the work done, but oh well. Watching in the task manager my CPU and GPU rarely hit over 50%-60% on usage, and even then it's a brief burst. Performance wise, it's a lengthy process but not too bad. Shouldn't be a problem moving forward and doing it weekly or whatever, and hopefully it's less of an issue with PhotoLab where I'm looking at each picture anyways. Re-processing catches them no problem, but again - a hassle of figuring out which ones are missing and I can't trust it to just run through everything. That's not too bad, but on other occasions when I would go to check on the files once completed, it would be a few short. I'd put a bunch of files in to let it run for the day, then I would come back and it crashed at some point and I'd have to figure out where and start again. Using it the way I am doing big batches has been a hassle. Other notes on PureRaw - it's a bit buggy but overall not too bad. But moving forward doing smaller batches I think using PhotoLab and tweaking settings shouldn't be too bad. Going through ten thousand photos, most of which I'm going to just toss auto on in Lightroom and export to JPEG with a handful of good photos being properly edited and printed, I don't want to audit every photo individually.

Moving forward I'm going to give a trial of PhotoLab instead.

Because I am running through a large amount of photos and there is far better good than bad, I'm going to keep it as is, keeping originals on a backup for a while in case I come across any photos that I love that it made a mess of. So far I haven't come across any photos that I thought looked worse off - nothing has been over done with noise reduction to the point of feeling plastic-y or fake, but I have come across a good deal of photos that I thought were over sharpened. I'm just about done running through a little bit under 10k photos, deleting the originals off my hard drive and starting to re-editing things. As I said below, I've never really gotten the hang of Lightrooms de-noise and sharpen tools so for me I am really happy with the results, but I can't say for sure how it would be for someone who already does a good job in Lightroom. How big of an improvement over doing it manually in Lightroom, honestly, I don't know. I started out doing smaller batches on my photos and doing comparisons, and for the vast majority of photos it makes a really nice improvement. Update: Alright, for anybody who comes across it, here is an update. I very briefly tried Topaz's de-noise this morning and greatly prefer how you can right-click a photo from in Lightroom and edit in Topaz then save back to LR, but their massive watermark in the middle of the photo makes it hard to use a bunch and evaluate. I'm curious how people here use it and what would be recommended for my use case.ĭo you audit every file first to see what could use a bit of extra help, or just pop everything through PureRaw? Once processed do you A/B every file to make sure it hasn't gone a bit plastic-y, or in general is it pretty safe? Safe enough that for my use case you'd recommend throwing everything through and deleting the originals right after? I downloaded a trial of PureRaw this morning, which I've seen praised here a bunch, but the workflow and lack of settings has be a bit lost. With that said, I like to still make them look as nice as I can. I tend to save shots that capture a moment I like, even if it's out of focus, crazy noisey, or with wonky exposure.

I shoot on a Sony A7ii with a small handful of lenses (usually the 35mm or 85mm 1.8s), and have a flash that I use semi-frequently.ĭue to constantly changing environments and a child that never stops moving for more than a quarter second at a time, I do the best I can but results are all over the map. I've got a year and a half old and take a tonne of photos at every occasion. Sorry if this is a bit long, but it's probably best to get some context for my questions.
